| hello all,
Since ill be moving house soon im going to get my own internet plan just wondering if anyone in pilbara has a plan with 8000/384 and how much of the 8000 they are actually getting since it says it can be between 1500 and 8000 depending where you live and if its worth it or to just stick with 1500/256?? also what ISP are you with?
Cheers Phase |

| G'day Phase, welcome to PGN. Mate,as you have already suggested, how much of the 8000 you get really depends on how far away from the exchange your house is.If you live within a 2km of the the exchange you will get the full speed, gradually decrease after that.I live about 2.5 ks and get around 7300 which is still pretty good. When i was on ADSL2 i was getting around 15000 with Internode when downloading from aussie sites. As for gaming latency, you will always get a better ping with 1500/256 rather than 8000/384 because the later has interleaving enabled. I have only ever used 3 isp's, Westnet, Internode and Exetel . Internode would be my #1 pick, very reliable, rock solid connection, plenty of free content but a bit pricey, but you pay for quality i suppose. Westnet are really good as well, same as Internode and Exetel are probably the best value for money ISP but the jurys still out with them in my opinion. Have a look at This page on Whingepool for details on plans and ISP's. PS. Whatever you do mate, please don't choose those ripoff fucks called Telstra Bigpond i honestly fucking hate em with a passion.

| i have a 8000/384 connection, great for d/l's, I can get about 830kb/s, but not so good for gaming, it has a higher latency than the 1500 connection! but not to much more.
and what bignats said!!!! fck telstra | |

| 3rd that about telstra... they really shit me off... my last speed test clocked mine at a peak of 12,500 kbps but i average around 9,000 most times. I'm on ADSL 2+ on the 20000 25 gig plan. It's pricey but i'm locked in unfortunately. I would be going internode next time thats is an absolute surety!! | |

| hey honky, how you gettin adsl 2+ in wickham? internode offer adsl plus 2 up here but it doesnt seem to be the same as adsl 2+. I'm on the internode 'adsl plus' 25gig plan but i need a bigger d/l limit for umm gaming.... | |

| Thanks for all the info. yeh agree with how shit telstra is. being looking at some internode plans and seems to be what ill go for. wouldn't mind going for 8000/386 for downloads but ping probs means more to me, guess ill just have to wait a couple more hours for coughporncough i mean games and music
plan that sounds good for me below:
Home-1500-Boost 40 GB Shaped Free N/A Dynamic $69.95 /mo.
what you guys reckon?
edit: now i think more about it the download speeds on 8000/384 would prob suit me just wondering how much more ping does that mean ill roughly get?? if its only like 10-20ms i could live with that just don't want 50+.
